11/06/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
11/06/15 13:45 Basic Information Gandalf is a 12 year old neutered Alaskan Husky mix that came in as an owner surrender with a litter mate. Owner stated that she got Gandalf from another rescue center when he was 2 months old and has had him since. She is now moving to China for work and cannot take Gandalf or his litter mate, Mischka, with her. Gandalf’s last vet visit was a year ago which revealed that has low thyroid levels due to his age. Owner’s 2 favorite things about him are that he’s affectionate and protective. Social Life & Personality Owner stated that Gandalf is fearful and other animals and all strangers. He needs to be given time to build a bond. Owner also stated that he does better with woman than with men. He is very house trained and never has accidents. He is kept mostly indoors and has a medium activity level. Owner described him as playful, confident, affectionate, shy, fearful, anxious and mellow. Behavior Issues Owner stated that Gandalf displays signs of separation anxiety. He becomes anxious when he is left home alone and begins to wine. He displays no other signs of behavior issues. Gandalf isn’t bothered by having his food bowl touched while eating, having objects or toys taken away from him, receiving baths or having his coat brushed. Upon intake, Gandalf displayed signs of nervousness. His tail remained tucked and his ears were back. He urinated twice and moved his bowels while in the lobby, a sign of extreme fear. He was timid, rigid and handler had to take her time when walking him. However, he allowed himself to be collard and photographed. For a New Family to Know Gandalf knows the commands sit, stay and give paw. For exercise, he was walked both on and off leash three times a day. He enjoys playing with stuffed toys only and does well when he is put into his crate. When owner is home, Gandalf tends to stay in his favorite spot. When he is off leash, he is well behaved and stays close to owner’s side. He eats dry food only and is on a feeding schedule. Owner stated that she puts food out for him twice a day, once in the morning at breakfast time and once at night for dinner time. He slept anywhere in the home.

11/06/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gandalf previously live with 1 adult and another dog. The owner stated Gandalf is fearful of other animals and all strangers. It was reported by the owner Gandalf does better with woman than with men. The owner mentioned Gandalf is house trained, has a medium activity level and when home alone he becomes anxious and begins to whine. The owner described Gandalf as playful, confident, affectionate, shy, fearful, anxious and mellow. At intake it was reported Gandalf was nervous, fearful and timid, he did allow all handling. During SAFER Gandalf came into the assessment room anxious and nervous, not all handling items were able to be conducted as Gandalf freezes and lip curled at the assessor on the Look item. He displayed no interest in any of the resource items during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 5. Dog freezes and lip curls. Toy 1: No interest.
