A volunteer writes: Summer will soon be here and what better way to celebrate than with a delicious Creamsicle like Frank? He’s hunky, high energy and happy to meet new friends both large and small and when it comes to fun and games, he’s a pro! Frank loves toys (but not to the point of obsession), he’s a big fan of squeakers and tug-o-war and could probably chase after a tennis ball for hours, kicking or mouthing it but never guarding. Just name the game and Frank is ready to play play play! With other dogs he is Mr Enthusiasm, pulling on leash or vocalizing from his pen but always wagging a friendly tail, and in playgroup he’s keen to socialize and ‘interacts with a loose, soft body’. Petting is much appreciated and Frank gives back sloppy kisses in return but adventure awaits and there’s no time to stop for snuggles! His leash walking skills leave a lot to be desired yet once in a harness he’s easy enough to hold back and he does like to pause and sniff frequently which brings down the pace a bit. Frank nibbles treats firmly but nicely from my hand and seems to be quite house trained too, taking care of his business quickly and often once we hit the street. A big ol’ clown whose only demands are plenty of exercise and the chance to hang out with his doggie buddies, Frank would love to join your family for fun in the sun this summer and every summer for many happy years to come.
04/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Frank pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. He was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. Frank was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in food, toy or rawhide. Frank rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Frank is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experience home. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. No interest. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with his tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip long Helper:A1032150 5/5 update: Frank is not thriving in the kennel environment. He growls, hard barks, and stares when approached in his kennel. With a slow, low approach he shows more social behavior, approaching and soliciting attention with some coaxing, but his initial response to strangers precludes placement in the adoption room. We feel that leaving the kennel and moving into a stable home environment as soon as possible is in Frank’s best interest.
