11/04/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Forrest came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Forrest was friendly and attention seeking, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Forrest came into the assessment room calm and quiet, he was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Forrest follows the handler but a bit distracted during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Forrest was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Forrest appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft but a bit distracted. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Forrest greets politely and will attempt to solicit play. He may become uncomfortable and overcorrect another male dog if they attempt to mount him.
11/02/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Forrest greets other dogs politely and may engage in gentle play with some dogs. He can become uncomfortable when interacting with some male dogs. Based on his behavior during playing, the Behavior Department recommends that Forrest can go to a home with a female dog and may be placed with another male dog but we recommend that a pre-adoption interaction be required. He seems to do well with both playful and non-playful dogs so any playstyle can be considered. Forrest greeted the helper dog but spent most of the time exploring and marking the yard. 11/03 update: Forrest greets both males and females politely and will attempt to solicit play. He will engage in gentle play briefly with other playful dogs but is easily overwhelmed if play becomes too exuberant. 11/4 update: Forrest greets politely and will attempt to solicit play. He may become uncomfortable and overcorrect another male dog if they attempt to mount him. 11/5 update: Forrest greets politely and engages in brief bouts of running play. He may become sexually motivated with some dogs. 11/6 update: Forrest greets both males and females politely and will attempt to solicit play. 11/7 update: Forrest is social, greets other dogs politely and will engage in running play briefly with males and females.
