07/08/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: If I were naming this dog he would have been Mercedes or Bentley, or something very high class, although the name Ford in its way reflects a steadfastness, a solid name with a long history. Our Ford is estimated at 2 years old, so his personal history is relatively short, but nonetheless solid and awesome. He’s a gorgeous, elegant, long legged dog who attracted tons of compliments as we walked through the park. His squarish face perhaps indicates a boxer somewhere in his family tree, and his good grooming, perfect leash manners, trimmed nails all reflect a well taken care of dog before joining us. Likely housetrained, his first order of business was his business, and then his great leash manners made for a perfect walk through the park. We stopped to take some pictures, Ford not minding being tethered, making soft eye contact, posing perfectly and sweeping his reward treats gently from my fingers. With a friendly wag of his tail it was clear Ford would have liked to meet other dogs we passed, and in the backyard he happily greeted another dog through the gate. He comes when called and lays his head in my lap for some petting. Friendly, nice, sweet and easy with a low key energy, Ford is hoping to meet you today. So, rev your engines, gas up and come meet our boy, Ford.
07/09/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ford came to our center after being found as a stray, police were on patrol and witnessed him walking up and wagging tail at people. He was very friendly upon intake, sitting on command, taking treats quickly. Ford did not go into his kennel easily, reluctant to enter. Ford pulled a bit on leash for his relief walk. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body soft, wagging tail. He stood still and accepted the touch for Sensitivity item, mouth closed, ears back. Ford played along for Tag game, jumping and popping, settling easily at end of game. He did not pull his paw back for both Squeeze attempts, wagging tail. He lifted his head out of the Food bowl but required a moderate amount of pressure. Ford took Toy away with a loose body. He took Rawhide away, body a bit stiff. When off leash with other dogs Ford is playful, engaging in rough running play with males and females. The Behavior Team feels Ford would do well in an Experienced home. He may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners, how to take treats gently, and how to avoid any potential possessive behaviors. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1.
