08/01/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Fontaine came into the care center as a stray and stayed with the family that found him for three weeks. The finder provided limited information about his behaviors in a home but stated that Fontaine was house broken and walked well outside. It was also stated that Fontaine stayed with 3 adults and 1 cat., and was reported to have been receptive to the cat in the house. Upon intake it was noted that Fontaine was quiet but receptive to introduction and loose for all handling. He also walked well on leash and did not mind being picked. During SAFER Fontaine was a bit distracted by objects in the room when interacting with the assessor, but he maintained a relaxed body posture for all handling, and was relaxed during the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Fontaine was a bit resistant when pushed out of the food bowl, but when a bit of pressure was applied to his cheek, Fontaine lifted his head and allowed the assessor to remove the food without issue. Fontaine was not interested in the toys or rawhide items. Fontaine appears to be social, and has not shown any behavioral concerns while in the care center, so the department feels, he can be suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Fontaine will mount other dogs and may show some status seeking behaviors with other males. He is pushy in his attempts to solicit play.
