07/12/15 16:11 Fire is a geiatric Chihuahua JAck Russell mix that was surrendered due to the family having no time. He had been with his family for 6 years. And before that he lived with his owner’s relatives. It was stated he is a low key dog that that’s it easy. He sleeps most of the day, but if you intiate play with him he will play. The owner states that Fire doesn’t like to be picked up. He likes fetch and will bring the item back, but won’t drop it. He allows you to take it from him to throw it again. At inakte, Fire remained quiet. He allowed all handling by the counselor.

Fire previously lived with one adult. The owner stated Fire has a medium energy level and that he is easy. It was mentioned by the owner Fire like to sleep for most of the day but if you initiate playing with him he will attend to play. It was also stated by the owner Fire loves to play fetch; he will bring it back to you and allow u to throw it again. The owner describes Fire as playful, friendly and mellow. It was reported Fire was quiet and calm, allowed all handling upon intake. During SAFER Fire came into the assessment room calm and quiet, he was friendly towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Fire was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Fire was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Fire appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Food: 1. No interest Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-to-dog: Off leash Fire is nervous but allows greeting. Is not interested in engaging in play, sniffs/explores the yard. Tolerant.

He does not seem interested in engaging in play, but he does sniff and explore the yard. 7/17 update: Fire remains nervous and stiff but does greet. Mainly sniffs/explores. 7/18 update: Fire continues to greet appropriately. Tolerant, but doesnt play. Sniffs/explores the yard. 7/21 update: Fire continues to explore the yard. Will correct for pushiness. 7/22 update: Fire continues to be mostly interested in exploring the yard. He did engage in brief bouts of play and is a bit sexually motivated. 7/24 update: Fire greets politely. He continues to be a bit playful and a bit sexually motivated. Handles corrections appropriately.
