12/17/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
12/17/15 10:44 BASIC INFO Fantasm A1060775 is a Boxer/Pit Mix. He is being surrendered to the shelter because he was found running around loose on 12/16/15 in Crotona Park, by the Tennis Courts on 179th street and Crotona Avenue. Finder fed Fantasm Kibbles and Bits. They stated that he went potty outside. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Fantasm was a little mouthy when taking treats. He was also super hyper and trying to dart all o9ver.
12/21/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I love smooshy-faced dogs and had my eye on Fantasm for awhile thanks to his generous jowls and long legs that suggest some American Bulldog/Boxer in his lineage. When we finally got to spend some time together it was all fun. He’s big, he’s handsome, he is playful and he is silly! Fantasm loves hugs, he loves treats, he loves butt rubs and he loves chasing balls (although he is not sure what to do with them yet). Like all young pups, Fantasm would benefit from some leash manners so that he is a courteous companion on the street but he is such a happy go lucky pup that I know he will be a quick study. He is an enthusiastic youngster looking for an active family who will appreciate his joie de vivre!
12/19/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Fantasm pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Fantasm was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Fantasm took the toy with a soft body language. Fantasm appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experienced home. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs Fantasm rushes into the pen and attempts to mount the helper dog. Once handler correction has been offered he begins to engage in running play when solicited by the helper dog. He again will attempt to mount once play ceases.
12/18/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Fantasm engages in running play with female dogs but does exhibit strong sexually motivated behaviors as well (he is currently unaltered). He will offer correction when solicited by a pushy female, and he has not yet been introduced to a male. Based on the behaviors seen in the care center, the behavior department recommends Fantasm have a pre-adoption interaction before being placed into a home with another dog. When off leash with other dogs Fantasm rushes into the pen and attempts to mount the helper dog. Once handler correction has been offered he begins to engage in running play when solicited by the helper dog. He again will attempt to mount once play ceases. 12/22 Fantasm engages in running play with a playful female dog, eventually with the intent to mount. 12/23: Fantasm briefly engages in play with the intent to mount. He corrects pushy play.
