Fado is a 9 year old male bearded Border collie mix that came in for a deferred intake. Owner stated that she got him three years ago from her son and has had him since. She can no longer have him because her neighbors are complaining about his barking and her landlord told her she has to get rid of him. She has never taken him to the vet but he will undergo a complete medical examination. Two things she likes most about him is his companionship and that he’s energetic.
Social Life & Personality
Fado is relaxed, playful and respectful with children and other dogs. Owner stated that when his son had him, there was a chihuahua in the home that he bonded with. However, during walks he tends to be fearful of dog he sees outside. He has not interacted with cats. Fado is house trained and is kept mostly indoors. He has a high activity level and owner described him as playful, affectionate, fearful, mellow, independent, excitable and friendly.
Fado tends to bark when owner isn’t home. He displays no other signs of behavior issues. He barks and growls when owner attempts to touch his food bowl while he’s eating or take away treats or objects from him. He isn’t bothered with baths or having his coat brushed and he is friendly with unfamiliar people.
For a New Family to Know
Fado understands commands in Polish. For exercise, he is walked on leash 3 times a day. Owner stated that Fado’s favorite toy is a ball that he’s had since she got him. He also likes stuffed toys and enjoys car rides. When owner is home, he tends to follow her around and be in the same room as her. During storms/fireworks she becomes fearful and hides. She eats dry food only and is free fed. Owner stated that she has tried to give him canned food and he was not interested. He has his own bed to sleep in in however he enjoys sleeping underneath owner’s bed.
