11/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Evergreen came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Evergreen gave a low growl when attempting to place a collar on her, she allowed limited handling. During SAFER Evergreen came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was social towards the assessor, not all handling items were able to be conducted as Evergreen freezes and growls at the assessor on the first paw squeeze. During this portion of the assessment on toy item she bit the assess-a-hand when attempting to remove the item. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 4. Follows at end of leash, body tense and growls. Squeeze 1: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Toy: 5. Dog bites the assess-a-hand. Dog-dog: Evergreen greets through the barrier but immediately attempts to mount the helper dog upon entering the yard. She growled and grabbed onto him and had no response to human correction.
