09/09/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: It’s “All About Eve”, in a good way………I fell in love with Ms. Eve from the moment she wagged her tail at me ready for a walk. She’s soooooooo housetrained; she peed enough to raise the Hudson River 5 inches! Eve and her best friend Wall-e (A1050619) a 6 year old Chihuahua joined us when their owner passed away. Eve is feeling the loss of her person, her home and the proximity of her bestie. Nonetheless, her tail wags, she’s happy to spend time with me even trying to hop up on the bench next to me but her older legs no longer can jump that high. Her leash manners are lovely, she walks slowly and easily her tail wagging as we go. Eve has the calm good manners of a ‘senior’, easy to be with, happy to relax with her person, playing gently with a toy for a few moments perhaps remembering what it was like to be young and have a family. In her first play group she was tolerant, a bit selective and does approach other dogs. Her eyes are a bit cloudy, she’s a little plump, her back legs are bent a bit and she’s the most gorgeous creature on the planet. She loves to be petted, and when I stopped she nudged my hand to carry on! So sweet! Since she couldn’t come up on the bench I sat with her on the floor and she cuddled and gave me kisses. I took her out again at the end of my day to go potty before settling in for the night. And I fell in love even more with this gentle, sweet soul. We would all love for her to find her forever place by someone’s side….she deserves to know comfort, love and peace.
09/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Eve pulls a bit on leash. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Eve was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. Eve took the toy away but had soft body language. She put body between assessor and rawhide, showing no growling or stiffness. Eve did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Food 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. When off leash with other dogs, Eve greets briefly. She corrects when approached from behind, but will approach and sniff the male greeter.
