04/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Eve came into the Care Center as a stray surrender so her past behavior a home is unknown. At intake Eve was reported to be sociable and allowed all handling by a Counselor. She was also reported to be tolerant of all handling during her medical but did seem to be a bit shy. During SAFER Eve was not very attention seeking and was more interested in her surrounding, but with coaxing she approached the assessor with soft/friendly body language. She allowed all handling without issue, and was distracted during the tag interaction. Eve did show some concerns during the resource items; stiffening and growling when being pushed out of the food bowl, and bit the assess-a-hand when the assessor attempted to remove the rawhide. Due to the behaviors seen during the food and rawhide items, the Behavior Department feels Eve should be placed with a New Hope partner that is able to safely manage and provide a behavior modification plan to address the guarding behaviors seen during the assessment before adoption into a permanent home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game needed coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 5. Dog bites assess-a-hand. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Eve is tolerant when greeted but is not interested in interacting beyond the initial greeting. She wanders the yard, relaxed.
