08/15/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/15/15 16:29 Behavior during Intake Espee was initially stressed during intake. She constantly paced and backed away when summoned. After a moment, and being softly spoken to, Espee began to relax. She eventually began taking treats, and playing with her toys. Espee demonstrated her knowledge of commands in exchange for treats. Espee allowed all handling, and showed no signs of aggression during intake.
08/19/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Up until now Espee was the ‘baby’ living in a one bedroom apartment with her person. Now there is a human baby so Espee has been surrendered to our care. She’s a calm, sweet, quiet little girl, housetrained, and with great leash manners. What a pleasure she is to spend time with! Understandably confused by her change in circumstance, she allows all petting, posed for photos like a rock star, and absolutely lit up when I showed her a squeaky toy! She loves her toy, carrying it around a backyard pen, letting me take it out of her mouth, and then chasing it when I toss it. Her tail wags, her eyes sparkle and she becomes a happy girl again for that time. She’s shy with other dogs, in group greeting others briefly, tolerant of being sniffed, but not engaging in play at this time. This quiet, sweet, unassuming little girl is looking for a new family to love and take care of. Easy to be with, gentle and calm, she’s the perfect companion with whom to “chill out” and relax. Treat yourself to our Espee……you both deserve it.
08/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Espee was initially shy and would approach the assessor when coaxed with a low body; she was given a few minutes to warm up and would then approach the assessor with a soft body and low wag. During handling items she became a bit uncomfortable being restrained but allowed all handing to be completed. She followed the assessor with a soft body and wagging tail during tag becoming somewhat playful towards the end of the game. Espee did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. She became very playful when interacting with the toy and took it away from the assessor with a neutral body, no growling or stiffness. She had minimal interest in rawhide. Espee was surrendered to the care center; upon intake she was initially stressed and backed away when summon, but after she was given some time to warm up she relaxed, played with her toys, and allowed handling. Espee was a bit shy and cautious during some of the handling items but was friendly towards the assessor and would approach with low wag and soft body when not being restrained. The Behavior Department recommends Espee go to an experienced adopter, we advise that future adopters should be able to provide positive experiences for Espee. In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Espee be given the opportunity to interact at her own pace. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is low and not moving body a bit stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 1.
