My name is ELMO. My Animal ID # is A1056014.
I am a neutered male gray and white poodle min and shih tzu mix. The shelter thinks I am about 8 YEARS old.

I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 10/26/2015 from NY 10459, owner surrender reason stated was NEW BABY.

10/26/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
10/26/15 15:36 Basic Information Elmo was brought in as an owner’s surrender due to owner having a young child. Owner has had Elmo for the past year after finding him outside. Owner says as far as he knows Elmo does not have any injuries or health concerns and when asked two things he likes most about him owner chose how playful and friendly he is. Personality & behavior Elmo id described as playful and friendly with a medium activity level. Elmo lived with a one year old, and owner says he is normally afraid and will hide form her. Elmo lived with a poodle and owners say the two were very playful and affectionate with each other. Elmo gets walked twice per day but owner says he has daily accidents urinating in the house. According to owner there has been no past issues of Elmo biting or scratching anyone or another animal. Owner says Elmo freezes and growls when you attempt to touch his food. Elmo is friendly and listens when told to get off of furniture. During baths Elmo attempts to run and growls but owners say he does not bite. Elmo struggles during nail trims, but is said to be unbothered with being brushed. Elmo is described as friendly and social when approached by strangers. For a New Family to Know Owner notes that Elmo does not like hearing loud noises and will howl out. Elmo does not know any commands. Owner says Elmo enjoys stuffed toys and has never been crate trained. When home Elmo usually follows her owner around, and is well behaved when left home alone. Elmo is sometimes off leash outside and owner says he roams but comes back when called. Elmo ate both wet and dry food and usually slept on the floor in owner’s room. Behavior during Intake Elmo was friendly during intake. He allowed petting and handling to be conducted. Elmo did growl when counselor attempted to pick him up but otherwise allowed all handling. Elmo showed no signs of aggression during intake.

10/29/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Elmo walks calmly on leash. He was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body and tail, but trying to stay close. Elmo became over aroused during the tag interaction trying to bite the assessor. The behavior team decided to stop the assessment and move on with the resources test. Elmo was not interested in food, rawhide but freezes and growled at the assess-a-hand during the toy test. Elmo was surrender to us. His previous owner described him as playful and friendly with a medium activity level. Elmo lived with a one year old, and owner says he is normally afraid and will hide form her. Elmo lived with a poodle and owners say the two were very playful and affectionate with each other. Owner says Elmo freezes and growls when you attempt to touch his food”. Elmo show guarding behavior during the toy item the behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, shy body language, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 5. Dog tries to bite. Food. No interest. Toy: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Rawhide 1. No interest.

When off leash with other dogs Elmo allows brief greeting but is more interested in exploring his surroundings.
