12/01/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A brindlicious, slender, gorgeous, elegant puppy wags her tail at me and I know we’re going to be good friends. We head for the door and once outside Eleanor goes potty and we’re off to the park. She pulls a bit on the leash but it’s all about puppy enthusiasm for exploring the world. I love seeing everything through a puppy’s eyes – it puts a whole new spin on things! She’s super friendly, wagging her tail at everyone who smiles down at her, and in the backyard she plays with a plush toy, comes in my lap for some kisses, chases a ball but doesn’t retrieve and shows off a lively, affectionate and perfectly appropriate puppy energy. Taking a treat gently, her tail wags, and although she doesn’t seem to know how to sit she gets lots of treats. In group play with other dogs she greets politely and engages in bouncy puppy play. She’s an absolute delight who is going to make her new person or family incredibly happy. Will it be you?
12/01/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Eleanor pulls a bit on the leash. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Eleanor was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She took the toy away but had soft body language. Eleanor did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, may have long lip or lip lick. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Playgroup notes: When off leash with other dogs, Eleanor greets politely and becomes bouncy when engaging in play.
11/30/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Eleanor solicits and engages in play with male and female dogs. She is polite when soliciting and does not continue to solciit from dogs that are uninterested. Based on the observations made while in our care, the behavior department recommends that Eleanor may be placed into a home with another social dog. Eleanor arrived into our care center as a stray, so her behaviors in a home with other dogs are unknown. When off leash with other dogs, Eleanor greets politely and becomes bouncy when engaging in play. 12/1: Eleanor engages briefly in play. 12/2 update: Eleanor is social and playful, engaging in running play with some dogs and rough, mouthy play with other dogs. She is respectful of dogs who are not interested in play and will cease attempting to solicit. 12/6: Eleanor engages in running play with another playful dog.
