08/05/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: So quiet in his kennel and so patiently waiting his turn for a walk, his eyes lit up when he saw me unlatch his door. Leashed easily he stepped out and off we go. Likely housetrained he went potty as soon as we were out the door, and his nice leash manners gave me a chance to admire his immaculate grooming. His coat is clean and perfect, his weight just right for his size, and he’s calm, quietly friendly and easy to be with. His tail wags as we walk, and when I talk to him it wags even harder. He understands that I’m telling him what a good boy he is! Showing off his ‘sit’ he takes his reward treats super gently. As we sit in the park a group of kids pass by and Edwin watches softly with an easy tail wag…..He passes other dogs easily and in play group he’s a rock star! He’s social, greets others well, and is appropriately energetic and playful. Low key, awesome and always smiling it’s no surprise he aced his behavior assessment indicating he’ll be a good fit in most homes. The name Edwin means ‘rich in friendship’, and he’s just waiting to show you how what being rich is really all about.
08/03/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Edwin came to our shelter when a police officer found him tied in the hallway of a building. He walked nicely on leash and was easily placed in and out of his kennel. He was a little shy upon intake and during his relief walk, but warmed up and approached handlers. Edwin allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, tail wag. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, slow wag, mouth closed. Edwin jumped and played along with assessor during Tag game, settling easily at end. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Edwin lifted his head out of the Food bowl when assess-a-hand was applied to his cheek. He kept a firm grip on Toy and playfully engaged, loose wiggly body. Edwin kept a firm hold on Rawhide, body neutral, but relinquished easily. He approached the helper dog playfully, ears forward, tail above spine level, body relaxed. The Behavior Team feels Edwin would do well in an Average home. He may need time initially to warm up but once comfortable is presenting a social friendly playful dog. Edwin may benefit from daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of daily walks, runs, exercise and play to positively direct his playfulness and energy. Look: 1.
