07/09/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Edwards came into the care center as a stray, so we do not have information on his past behaviors in a home. Upon intake Edwards was reported to be very shy for introduction and very quiet for handling with a tense body. Edwards was also reported to be shy and resistant on leash. During SAFER Edwards appeared to be a bit fearful, and needed a slow approach. He allowed some handling without issue, but became stiff and uncomfortable during the tag interaction and paw handling. During the resources portion of the assessment Edwards was easy to handle when engaged with the food, but was not interested in the toys or rawhide items. Edwards becomes uncomfortable when approached too quickly and would likely do best with an experienced adopter with no children, and we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Edwards be given the opportunity to interact at his own pace. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag 3 . Dog repeatedly turns quickly spins toward the touch, and repeatedly tries to exit, Dog is crouching ,tail is tucked, mouth closed, body stiff. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is body is stiff, and moves his legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: Off leash Edwards is social and tolerant, greets appropriately, can become playful with a appropriately playful mate.
