10/21/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Tell us your dream–anything, really–and we will tell you Edelweiss is the answer. A great walker? He’s a dream-come-true walker, prancing gently by his handler’s side. A fantastic companion? Again, he’s a dream come true, offering up affection in the form of kisses but just as happy to lean against your legs or sit on your feet. (No, that’s not a typo-he prefers to sit on your feet then at there.) Of course this easy-going boy seems dear with other dogs and house trained, of course he is beyond good-looking with an energy level and disposition suited to absolutely anybody and anything….because he’s a dream come true! Won’t you make his a reality and offer him a home? Another volunteer writes: I was surprised to discover that Edelweiss was a boy… The name of a flower and his gracious looks in his kennel made me think of a girl. What a good looking dog! So elegant, prancing like a dancing horse and really cute when he sits, lifting his right foreleg to ask for treats. Begging eyes are a must, of course. Edelweiss is a bit thin but dressed in an impeccable and shiny tuxedo, his milky face stippled with fine ebony dots. He seems house trained, going as soon as we left the building, no marking involved. He is gently curious of other dogs, comes when called and will sit for treats that he takes quite politely from my hand. Edelweiss is just a tiny bit shy but appreciates very much caresses and hugs. He appears to be a well mannered pooch who will make a dandy and loving companion. I bet that with his long legs, he could be an awesome running mate. Gorgeous Edelweiss is at the Manhattan Care Center, hoping soon to be yours.
10/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Edelweiss walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. Edelweiss was calm and relaxed during handling. Edelweiss was calm and relaxed when playing tag with assessor. He showed some concerning behavior during the food bowl test – stiffening and growling, but did not snap at or bite the assess-a-hand. He was not interested in toys or rawhide. Edelweiss may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address this food guarding behavior. In addition to food behavior modification protocol we recommend teaching Edelweiss “Drop It” and trade-up games. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter without children who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification Look: 2.
