A volunteer writes: The two things I like most about Eboni: her award winning smile and her positive outlook on life…Eboni is one friendly and happy go lucky gal. She is quite active, a bit unfocused but I think this is because she wants to make the best and the most of her time with her caretaker. There are so many options, she wants to try them all, meeting other dogs for example …Her tail wags, her body wiggles and she lets out a little bark of excitement. Running after a ball that she keeps loosing sight of…Sitting for treats…Playing tag….Cuddling with me, her body and neck tightly squeezed between my legs. She is so eager to please, loves caresses and gives zillions of kisses. Ebony is really a very enthusiastic girl in all that she does. A real sunshine! She is a cute young female dressed in a silky marble cake coat and is all eyes (they are so bright and laughing all the time) for everything and everyone that moves. She does not go after the pigeons, though. She has been quite well cared for until she was let go. I do hope that whoever parted from Eboni does feel the void in his or her life because she is one wonderful and uplifting presence. Eboni is an energetic girl, very sociable, friendly and affectionate who would do best with an active owner or family. She would love long walks, lots of playtime and maybe a friend…Eboni is at the Manhattan Care Center, hoping for the best…..YOU.
08/02/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Eboni was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, licked hands and face. She was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. She engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open and jumps up on the assessor towards the ends of the game. Eboni was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl and her body was a bit stiff. She took the toy away but had neutral body language and was easy to handle when chewing on the rawhide. Eboni was brought to the care center as a stray; upon intake she was easy to walk on the leash and was jumpy and playful. Eboni was excited during some of the assessment items but remained friendly towards the assessor. The Behavior Department feels she can go to an average home that understands Eboni appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Look: 3. Dog consistently rubs her shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor towards the end of the game. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the toy, and she has neutral body language. No growling or stiffness. Rawhide 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is neutral. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide.
