07/22/2015 WEB MEMO
A Staff Member Writes: “Duke has an amazing way of being both incredibly regal, yet friendly and down to earth. This big boy is tall and strong and his stunning grey fur makes him utterly handsome. When you walk by Duke’s kennel his ears perk up and his eyes grow wide with excitement! His big smile is so charming! He is so happy to be going on his walk. Duke pulls a little bit at the leash but when I ask him to stay next to me on our walk he listens. Duke is a dog who will be your constant companion. Maybe I am a little bit biased, but Pit Bulls are the best dogs out there and Duke is the cream of the crop! He was brought into the shelter by his previous owner, and they stated that he knows a plethora of commands and is well house trained-SCORE! He also enjoys being brushed and taking baths in the tub (hey we all like to be pampered once in a while and this boy is no different!) Duke will be just as happy to go on long walks with you as he would be to snuggle up in bed together. Duke is the perfect dog and he deserves a wonderful and loving home. If you feel like you are ready for the best friend you could ever have then please come to the Brooklyn care center to meet this beauty! He will be so grateful!”
07/07/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Duke was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. He allows for all handling items to be conducted. He engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open. Duke did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He had minimal interest in both toys and rawhide. Duke was surrendered to the care center by his owner of 4 years due to allergies. His previous owner describes Duke as playful, confident, independent and friendly. It is reported that Duke is unbothered when his food, treats or toys are touched by his owner. It was reported and observed at the care center that Duke does not do well with other dogs and may do best as the only dog in the household. The Behavior Department feels Duke would do best in an experienced home as the only pet. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
