05/07/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Doug came in as a stray, so his past behavior in a home is unknown. At intake Doug was reported to be nervous at first his tail was in between his legs. He was also very curious of his surroundings, after a few coaxing he loosened up and became friendly, his tail was wagging at full speed, and he truly enjoys giving kisses. During SAFER Doug was nice and relaxed entering the assessment room, and easily greeted the assessor also allowing all handling. During sensitivity Doug had a soft body with his tail wagging, for tag interaction he joins the game and approach the assessor towards the end; with paw squeeze he pulled his paw back gently with a soft body posture. On the food item he allows the assessor to move his head applying no pressure. He also showed minimal interest in toy and rawhide items. The behavior department feels Doug can go with an “average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, body soft with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Doug is slightly sexually motivated. He is interested in engaging with another dog and offers a play bow.

A shelter staff member writes: Doug and Callie are two social Pitties who are playgroup rock stars! They are respectful, tolerant, and engaging with even rude dogs! Doug’s owner just dropped his leash in in our lobby and walked out. He did very well on his SAFER, and will make a great addition to just about any home. Callie was surrendered because her owner did not have enough time to care for her. She has adorable eras, and has previously lived with a cat and a rabbit! Please help Doug and Callie find their loving forever families, and pull them online TONIGHT!
