09/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog: A1050077 Dorathy came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake Dorathy was anxious and whining but was loose for all handling. Dorathy previously got into an altercation with the finders dog. The finder was walking his dog (Chihuahua) and Dorathy that he took into his home got too close to each other and Dorathy bit the finder dog on his upper hind leg, the altercation happened at night time. During SAFER Dorathy came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Dorathy follows the handler but a bit distracted during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Dorathy was easy to handle when engaged with the items. When on leash for a dog interaction with another dog on leash Dorathy rushes in with her ears erect, tail above spine, barking with her stiff body posture. Due to Dorathy previous bite history and some major concerns around other dogs, the behavior department feels it’s best she can be suitable for an experience adopter with no other dogs in the house hold. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, and open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft but a bit distracted. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food: 1. Inconclusive dog is not eating. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the rawhide, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with her tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect.
