So many staff asked me if I had met Dimples yet and told me how awesome she is, that my mission was to meet Dimples. Big, black and gorgeous in her kennel, she’s welcoming until I show her my leash and then it’s thanks but no thanks. She seems afraid of being leashed, or anything swinging by her head, but I always have a couple of tricks up my sleeve and once leashed she’s fine. We head into the backyard where I can let her fun free in a pen. She pulls strongly on the leash and will benefit from a harness and/or some leash training. Surrendered to our care by her owner who can no longer care for her we’re told that she’s housetrained and barks if she needs to go out, knows ‘sit’, ‘give paw’, ‘come’, ‘get in cage’, ‘go in shower’. She loves to take showers with her owner, and often jumps in the shower to wait. How sweet is that? She also loves to be brushed, is friendly to all, has spent time with an 8 year old child, and because she doesn’t know how big she is, sometimes is a little rough. Dimples showed off her ‘sit’ in exchange for a treat which she took gently, play bowed to me for more treats and loving, and seems to like other dogs. Jumping up on the bench to sit beside me, her stubby little tail wagging away, she gives kisses and her whole body wiggles with the joy of it all. She’s a delightful dog who needs some structure and positive reward based training to round her out into the perfect adult dog she is destined to be. Dimples is waiting to meet her new person or family; she’s a big girl filled with love and enthusiasm and hopes to start her happily ever after today.
