10/21/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
10/21/15 15:02 Diamond is a tan and white 6 year old female pit bull that was brought in by the police as a stray. Officers stated that she had been following a pedestrian on the street. When he noticed the police, he approached them and told them about her. Officers stated that she allowed herself to be handled and put into the vehicle. Upon intake, Diamond appeared to be nervous; her tail was tucked and her body was slightly stiff. However, she displayed no signs of behavior issues and allowed herself to be handled collard and photographed.
WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I love Diamond. She is my kinda gal. She has some bumps and her coat is sort of dull, but she is so pretty! And like all the prettiest dogs, a camera makes her nervous. But even if I could successfully capture that face that draws you in, her sweet hound dog eyes, and lightly frosted muzzle, I don’t think any photo could capture the je ne sais quoi about her. She is low key in her cage, but when I approach will do a low hum/howl hybrid. She seems painfully housebroken and relieves herself quickly outside. She loves treats and takes them very politely, but only inconsistently seems to know what I want when I ask her to sit. She is very quietly affectionate and makes very soft eye contact. She’ll prop her paws on me to solicit petting and afterwards do a little happy dance before we continue on our way. When a staff member joined us in the yard she alternated between our laps, leaning in when getting pet, nearly going belly up at our feet, and giving kisses when it was clear they were wanted; she was never demanding or interrupting, just so easy to be with and a source of joy! We don’t know what her life has been or if who she lived it with knew how lucky they were to have her, but know that she deserves someone that does. As far as I can tell, she isn’t just a good dog, she is a wonderful, great dog, and every accolade in between. Please come meet Diamond at Brooklyn ACC and see if she’s your kinda gal too!
10/29/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Diamond came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Diamond was nervous with her tail tucked and tense body language, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Diamond came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Diamond was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Diamond was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Diamond appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog licks, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Diamond will sniff the helper dog briefly but mostly keeps to herself.
