07/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
8/11/2015: update: Destiny appears to be deteriorating in the center. She continually lip licks, nervous when approached, tail tucked. She will soften if left alone in the yard. Still difficult to leash, moves body away, hard stare. She is skittish and may do better in a different calm, quiet, structured environment. Destiny came to our center as an owner surrender. Owner reports Destiny comes from a home with children and interacted with them in a friendly playful manner. She also has lived with a male and female dog and got along with them until they had puppies at which point Destiny was aggressive towards the puppies. Behavior around cats is unknown. Owner also reports Destiny is not fully housebroken. Destiny was head shy while attempting to leash, slightly head flipping and low growl. She walked into SAFER assessment area cautiously, tail tucked, whale eye. Destiny allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body cautious. She stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, lip lick, body cautious. Destiny followed at the end of the leash fearfully, crouching at each pass. She did not pull back her paw on both Squeeze attempts. Destiny ceased eating and backed away fearfully when approached by assess-a-hand while eating out of the Food dish. She had no interest in Toy or Rawhide, but this may be due to environment, as owner reports she is playful and likes all toys. Destiny approached the helper dog with her ears forward, tail at spine level, body relaxed. Due to her reactivity with leashing, the Behavior Team feels Destiny would do best in an Experienced home with no Children who will allow her to approach and warm up at her own pace. She may benefit from a calm, quiet, structured environment so she knows what to expect and can relax. She may also do best with a harness instead of leash to limit the amount of activity around her head. Look: 2. body posture is cautious, tail low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still, accepts the touch, eyes averted, tail tucked, body cautious, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 3. Dog crouches at each pass, fearful , tail tucked. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not pull back paw. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating, backs away fearful. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip neutral.
