12/15/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Our gorgeous blonde brindle baby is lively, fun, affectionate and everything a puppy should be! She’s likely housetrained (she may need refresher as she is a puppy after all), loves to play with toys, play bowed to dogs through the fence, in group is vocal while soliciting play, and takes treats gently. As with many puppies to her everything is a play thing, including the leash, so Desirey will need some training as to what exactly a leash is for – toy not! She loves to be out for a walk, tail wagging as she surveys the area, posing for photos like a champ, enjoying her treats and giving me a quick ‘woof’ if I’m too slow. All puppy, smart and playful, she’ll need structure, positive reinforcement training and lots of love. Active puppies aren’t for everyone, but if you’re the person who thrives on helping a puppy grow into a rockstar adult dog, Desirey is hoping you’ll ask to meet her.
12/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Desirey pulls a bit on the leash. She was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, mouthy (moderate). Desirey was overexcited during handling, jumping up, grabbing at the leash, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Desirey took the toy away but had soft body language. Desirey is quick to use her mouth in play and has poor body awareness, resulting in her mouthing handlers with moderate pressure. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs her shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Desirey is vocal and attempts to solicit pushy play.
