WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A gorgeous youngster with an eager, friendly demeanor, Delta isn’t stubborn but she does know her own mind and once we’ve established her likes (fetch, food and lots of play time) and dislikes (slow throwers, other dogs) we get along like a house on fire. Not just a pretty face but a superb athlete as well, she’s full of play-bowing good cheer and enjoys a rousing game of chase or running after a tennis ball, always returning promptly to my side even if she’s not quite ready to give up the ball. Delta sits to wait for my throw (and barks to let me know if I’m taking too long) and she’ll plop her butt down politely for treats too, snapping them up mid-air and never, ever missing a catch. She walks nicely on leash, takes care of all her business outdoors and lets me pet her sleek coat any which way I please but when it comes to meeting fellow dogs her attitude is a very clear ‘no, thanks!’ A new home where she can be your only pet and the undisputed ‘queen bee’ of the family would suit Delta perfectly. If you’ve been searching for a fun-loving, head-turning beauty who’s always up for adventure then look no further – Delta is the girl for you!
04/12/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Delta was brought in by the police department after being tied to a fence. It is reported she was barking and lunging at the officers. She appeared guarded upon intake, but allowed employee to walk her to medical department. Delta allowed Look item with tail wagging. She stood still to accept touch during Sensitivity, leaning into the assessor. She played nicely during Tag, engaging in play and settling immediately at the end without escalating. Delta moved her body away from the Assessor during Squeeze, the first time not pulling paw away. The second Squeeze pulling paw back while moving body away, but no escalation was seen. Delta followed the dish during the Food item, and lifted her head out of the bowl with moderate pressure during first pass to cheek. Upon second Food pass to cheek, Delta froze and low growled. She kept a firm grip on toy and rawhide, but her body was loose and wiggly. The Behavior Team feels Delta would do well in an Experienced home with no children, due to the possibility of potential food guarding and sensitivity to Squeeze. She might also benefit from private training to positively modify her behaviors towards strangers. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position while leaning into assessor. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves her legs/body away from assessor Squeeze 1:3: Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves her legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw. Food 4. Dog freezes an or growls. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide.
