07/16/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dekota came into the care center as a stray, so we do not have any information on her past behaviors in a home. Upon arrival to the care center Dekota was reported to be friendly and allowed all handling. During SAFER Dekota was very sociable, and when interacting with the assessor she maintained a relaxed body posture. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue, and was relaxed during the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Dekota was easy to handle when engaged with the food, allowing the assessor to easily push her out of the food bowl. She was not interested in the toy items, and when engaged with the rawhides Dekota maintained a loose body, and relinquished the rawhide to the assessor. When off leash with other dogs Dekota was reported to be social but can sometimes be overly exuberant during play. She is slow to take correction, and previously got into a personality conflict with another female dog that was not tolerant of her exuberant play style. The department feels Dekota can be suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against her cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish rawhide to you. Dog-dog: Off leash Dekota is social and will engage in running play, will mount and is slow to take correction.
