09/30/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: It’s a case of mistaken identity- Davon looks so much like another dog we have here that staff called out using the other dog’s name. Davon of course, stopped, wagged his tail and I could almost hear him thinking – I don’t care what they call me, as long as they do! He’s gorgeous in his clean caramel coat, his tail never stops wagging, his leash manners are nice, he’s probably housetrained and he has the sweetest, most playful energy of any pup I met all day. He loves a good belly rub, and loves playing with balls – one ball, two balls, three balls…give chase, pick one up, drop it and get another, chase again and maybe I can get the third too. He’s so cute!! He can amuse himself for quite some time and it’s adorable to watch him run after one and then another. Davon was a little possessive with his toy in his behavior assessment so a home without young children is recommended. His adorable good nature, his fun and playful energy, and love of belly rubs and kisses will make him a super star in his new home. I adored this little guy and know that you will too. Come meet him today.
09/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Davon came to our center after he was found abandoned in an apartment when his family moved without him. He was easy to take in and out of his kennel. Davon grabbed the leash and played tug of war, taking a moment to settle. He held gaze for three full seconds, body soft, tail wagging. Davon leaned away from assessor during Sensitivity item, ears and tail neutral. He played along during Tag game, jumping and popping his body, but grabbed the leash at end of game, not settling easily. Davon did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. He lifted his head and ceased eating when assess-a-hand approached his cheek in the Food bowl. Davon settled close with Toy and growled when asses-a-hand approached. He took Rawhide away and settled close, body a bit stiff. When off leash with other dogs, Davon greets politely. He is playful and will attempt to solicit play with the other dog. Due to his potential for possessiveness, the Behavior Team feels Davon would do best in an Experiened Home with No Children. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body, tail wag. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog leans away from Assessor, ears and tail neutral. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game, indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, jumping up. Grabs leash at end. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy 4. Dog growls. Rawhide 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is a bit stiff. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Davon greets politely. He is playful and will attempt to solicit play with the other dog.
