07/22/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Four-year-old Danny (or as I like to call him, Mr Kisses) is really a puppy in disguise and just like a puppy he loves to be close to his people, loves running around, loves meeting other dogs, loves taking a walk…well, you get the picture, Danny simply LOVES! Whether hopping up beside me on the bench or sitting to wait for a snack, his tail is stuck in permanent wag mode and every photo shows a happy blur to match that classic beaming smile. He’s a sweet kisser and a grateful snuggler (even going so far as to lick my arm like a cat!) and though my treats are not to his taste he still sits on command to show off his good boy credentials for the camera. Danny walks enthusiastically on leash but he’s very responsive to my voice and seems to be quite house trained too, taking care of all his business within minutes. Playful and bouncy, gentle and cuddly, sweet Danny boy puts his whole heart into each and every moment and he can’t wait to share a lifetime of play dates, snuggle sessions and unconditional love with his lucky forever family. Meet Mr Kisses for yourself at our Manhattan Care Center and come prepared to cuddle!
07/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Update: While initially uncomfortable around other dogs, through playgroup experiences Danny has stopped offering defensive behaviors and will approach dogs to greet with a soft, relaxed body. Due to these additional observations, we feel that Danny’s behavior is appropriate for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience, with the understanding that Danny may need slow introductions to new dogs. 7/22 SAFER: Danny walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Danny was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Danny was not interested in toys or rawhide. Danny did not show any concern during the behavior assessment but he seen to be a bit uncomfortable around other dogs. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. When off-leash with other dogs, Danny the first time on playgroup was nervous, interacts briefly and sniffs the other dog, then wanders the pen. In the last days he continues to be uncomfortable when interacting with other dogs. He will allow brief greeting then avoid the other dog. 7/24 Playgroup update: Danny is becoming more tolerant of other dogs.
