SAFER: EXPERINECED HOME
Danny came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Danny walked into the assessment room a bit fearful, sensitivity his ears are back with his tail tucked, trembles and lip licks, tag-interaction he followed but a bit fearful. When both paw squeezes was attempted he didn’t respond but show no signs of aggression. Food, toy and rawhide item he showed no interest. Danny is nervous and trembling throughout the assessment and has a crouched body posture. The behavior department advises that future adopters should be able to provide positive experiences for Danny. In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Danny be given the opportunity to interact at their own pace. The behavior department feels Danny can go with an “experience” adopter.
Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is soft, ears back and trembles, his tail is tucked. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is tucked with relaxed body posture but trembles. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, but a bit fearful.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back.
Food: 1. No interest
Toy 1: No interest.
Rawhide: 1. No interest.
Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Danny continues to be tolerant when greeted and explores the yard with other dogs.
