03/20/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Even with bars between us I could tell there was something special about this guy — Oh Danny boy, I love you so! For a couple of days he sported the sort of “lost” look common among new arrivals, but would wag his tail whenever I passed by, and even gave me a peek at his belly! His body looks a little worse for wear, but it harbors a youthful, warm spirit. Danny always keeps his cage clean and relieves himself quickly outside, so may have house/crate training. Though he seems to know “sit,” the actual movement seems taxing for him. He is quite thin, but takes treats nicely (and needs time to chew them — his teeth are not in the best shape). When I have him loose in the yard he likes to explore, but will wag his tail at the sound of my voice, and once he’s done scoping everything out he joins me. He is very affectionate — he loves to be petted and will rest his head on my lap, while making the sweetest eye contact and wiggling his entire back end. Danny certainly loves people, but that love might be surpassed by his love for other dogs! When he spotted a staff member walking a dog, he did excited zoomies up and down the pen, then play bowed and tried to lick the other dog through the fence all while being very loose and wiggly. When the other dog went inside, Danny laid down and stared at the door, hoping and waiting for another to appear! The time I’ve spent with Danny has been with such a loving, gentle, amazing dog — I hope you’ll come spend time with him, too!
03/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Danny came to us as a stray on 3/12/15. Upon intake Danny was reported to be friendly and allowed all handling. He was very interest in the interacting with the assessor during the assessment, and walked well on the leash but does pull a bit slightly. He was easily handled, and allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile items of the SAFER without displaying any signs of aggression. He proved a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. Danny only displayed minimal interest in the toy and rawhide items on this portion of the assessment. The behavior department believes that Danny can go to an average or beginner home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1.
