04/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog:A1024540 Damien previously lived with one adult and children of all ages. He was reported to be playful towards the children and was tolerant of all handling from them. Damien was also reported to be respectful towards the cat he lived with and was said to be tolerant and relaxed when around other dogs. The owner described him as mellow and independent, and rarely seeks attention. It was also mentioned that Damien is successfully housebroken. At intake Damien was reported to roll over for belly rubs, but towards the end of intake he started to whine and bark, and was very difficult to control. During SAFER Damien did not appear interested in interacting with the assessor and was more interested in his surroundings. He did allow the assessor to collar him without issue, but when the “Look” item was attempted, Damien became stiff with wide eyes, and gave a low growl. Due to this behavior and safety concerns no other handling items were completed. During the resources portion of the assessment, Damien became stiff and growled when the assessor attempted to remove the items, and during the dog-dog interaction, he rushed in quickly with stiff body language. Due to the behaviors seen during SAFER placement with a New Hope partner that is able to provide behavior modification work by an experienced and competent trainer is recommended before adoption into a permanent home. Look: 5. Dog freezes and growls Food: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Toy 1: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Rawhide: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with his tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect.
