07/29/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Just how proud am I of this wonderful little girl? Picture me wearing an ‘I heart Dakota’ t-shirt while placing a ‘Dakota Rules’ bumper sticker on a car with ‘DAKOTALUV’ vanity plates and you’d still only be about halfway there — she is simply amazing! Gorgeous and friendly, playful and well-behaved, great with strangers and other dogs, a good walker, seemingly house trained and an obedient ‘sitter’ as well, Dakota is about as perfect a puppy as you could ever meet. She’s so full of life and love and when it comes to smothering her people in hugs and kisses Dakota has literally got you covered! If I sit on the bench she rushes over to nudge her head into my hand and once I crouch down to doggie level she quickly climbs into my lap and from there to my arms, kiss kiss kissing her way around my face and right into my heart. Dakota was under the weather when she arrived at the Care Center and had several seizures before she was even through the front door but after a dose of medicine and some additional fluids she’s bounced back as the bubbly, joyful youngster she was always meant to be. Please don’t let her medical history put you off welcoming this brindlicious babe into your family, with appropriate medication and care Dakota can still live the long, active and happy life she deserves. I love Dakota and I guarantee you will too, ask to meet her today!
07/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dakota was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body and tail, but trying to stay close. She was a bit nervous initially but warmed up to the assessor and allowed all handling to be conducted with ease. She was distracted and focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag interaction. Dakota had no interest in food and minimal interest in toys and rawhide. Dakota was found as a stray; upon intake she was very scared and did not want to walk on the leash. When initially interacting with the handler, Dakota was a bit timid but warmed up allowing for all handling to be conducted and continually tried staying close to the assessor; she eventually was comfortable enough to try and lick the assessor’s face. The Behavior Department feels Dakota can go to an average home that understands she should be given the opportunity to warm up to new people and environments at her own pace. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is a bit tense and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail down with a soft body posture, leaning into the assessor. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item, lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food. No interest. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks, then walks away. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail low, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral
