08/19/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Crush, as in “I have such a crush on this dog”. He’s awesome…not only does he have the best head tilt on the planet, he’s friendly, affectionate and has awesome manners. Yup, I have a crush on him. He’s lean in his well groomed tan coat, likely housetrained, great on leash, low key and amazing. Snuggling with a staff member as soon as we left the building, Crush shows off how much he loves people and loves snuggling. In the park he posed for photos like a super model, did the head tilt thing in concentration when I made kissy noises at him, gently took some reward treats in exchange for a sit, came up on the bench for some hugs and kisses, all the while gently wagging his tail. As we walked close to a tree in the park a squirrel jumped down literally landing at this feet startling both of us! Crush watched as the squirrel ran off never pulling towards it. Good boy! Small enough to fit into any living situation, Crush is ready to tilt his head in joy and gratitude as you say to him, “You’re coming home with me!”
08/19/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Crush pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Crush was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Crush ate faster, was stiff and very difficult to push out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. He was not interested in toys and took the rawhide with a soft body language. Crush approaches the helper dog with his tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long. Crush is an active dog he need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experienced home. He may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address his possible food guarding behavior. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. He does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long or neutral. Helper: A0942892
