05/27/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Crescendo has a lot to wag her tail about these days. She’s getting fed an extra meal each day to help her gain some weight, she sleeps on a bed, and she’s making friends with staff and volunteers who absolutely adore this quiet, sweet little girl. Resting in her kennel, she stands as I unlatch her door, happy for the opportunity to make a new friend and go out to go potty. After ‘going,’ we head to the park, Crescendo showing off amazing leash manners, walking perfectly by my side and checking up often as we walk. She has the cutest nose which I wanted to kiss each time she looked up. (I kissed it a lot later.) Posing for some pictures in the park, she sat when I asked her to, and takes her reward treats gently despite clearly being underweight. We stopped to talk to someone with her two large dogs and watched baby squirrels play and Crescendo stayed by my side quietly as we chatted. Such a good girl! Off leash in the yard we snuggled, I kissed her nose and she kissed me back! Calm, soft, snuggly, sweet and easy are the words I would use to describe Crescendo. Her little body shows signs of a not so easy life to date, too thin, crate feet, back legs that need the opportunity to stretch out, and a couple of small boo-boos on her front legs. I love her name and would like to think it symbolizes that the best is yet to come… let’s make it happen for her. Meet her today. Another volunteer writes: As Crescendo and I were outside the police were bringing in a large pittie they had found wandering in a park. Crescendo made herself the unofficial welcoming committee, meeting him with an easy tail wag as if reassuring him that he would be OK. Such a sweet girl. Crescendo’s kennel card is filled with wonderful comments from volunteers who’ve walked her: “great girl”, “sweetheart”, “love her”, ” I heart her”….and more. Crescendo does well in group play with quieter dogs who are not ‘in her face’. Knowing her calm and gentle personality, that makes perfect sense. She’s a puppy who needs to gain some weight (she’s now being fed an extra meal daily), and find her true love. She’s hoping to meet you today.
05/23/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Crescendo walks calmly on leash.. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Crescendo was calm and relaxed when playing tag with assessor. She growled at the assess-a-hand during the food bowl test but did not escalate to a bite. She was not interested in toys or rawhide. Crescendo was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful. Crescendo may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address this food guarding behavior. In addition to food behavior modification protocol we recommend teaching Crescendo “Drop It” and trade-up games. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior. We also recommend a home without children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture.
