DOG INFORMATION SHEET Where did this dog come from? Stray – Outside ORIGINAL SOURCE Found as a Stray Does this dog have a microchip? Yes WHY ARE YOU BRINGING THIS DOG IN? Is a Stray – Was Tied Up Describe his behavior: When first approached, ear’s were down, tail between leg’s, growling loud and showing teeth. These were my observations when I first encountered Cornelius while he was inside of a dog large dog carrier. Outside the carrier, Cornelius kept his ear’s down, tail was between leg’s, but no growling. Cornelius walked very cautiously and slow on the leash, tail was still between leg’s.
10/14/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Cornelius is waiting by his door. He was so tense yesterday but made a positive turn around. He looks still stern and a bit wary at times but definitively more relaxed. He accepts my leash and off we go to the street. Cornelius pulls a little, does his business, sniffs the grounds and marks his territory. He adopts a determined stance while meeting other dogs in the street and I wonder what will be his position upon meeting other pooches in playgroups. A one to one with him is a pleasure. Cornelius is quite well behaved. He is fitted with a scarf and sits on his own just at the sight of a treat. He does not jump or whine to get more. Asked to come on the bench, he obliges immediately, snuggles with his head against my chest or resting on my lap. Cornelius loves caresses and sweet words. I am sure there is more to know and more to say about gorgeous Cornelius who seems to have been so well cared for until his abandonment. I am looking forward to met him again and understand him better. Meanwhile, Cornelius is waiting at the Manhattan Care Center for his life to take a better turn. I hope that soon enough, a home sweet home will open its door to him.
10/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cornelius pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Cornelius was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Cornelius was not interested in toys and took the rawhide away with a soft body language. Cornelius did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide. 10/18 update: While Cornelius did very well on his SAFER assessment and is sociable with his handlers outside the kennel, he has shown some possible barrier reactivity inside the kennel and may tense, then hard bark, growl, and jump on the door when approached by a stranger.
