She sat for photographs and allowed to be transferred into a kennel.
11/07/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I fell in love with this sweet girl. A bit shy we took our time getting to know one another with an easy walk to the park giving her a chance to go potty and show off her lovely leash manners. She’s quiet and ladylike, gentle and sweet and once we were friends we exchanged hugs and she gave me soft kisses. Coqui has a beautiful coco color coat, her amber eyes soft, loving and sweet. Posing for some photos in the park, Coqui doesn’t mind being tethered and proves herself to be the perfect model, patient and still as I snap away. Off leash in the backyard she shows me her ‘sit’, takes treats gently and joined me on the bench for more kisses. Coqui found a soft toy and tossed it around a bit, getting gently and sweetly playful as if she hadn’t had that opportunity in a while. Off leash with other dogs Coqui greets politely and then wanders off to explore. Surrendered as her people no longer have time for her, let their loss be your gain. Every inch a lady, Coqui is looking for a new home in which she will be loved and cherished for who she is. I know you’ll love her as much as I do so ask to meet her today. She may need a short time to warm up, but when she does you’ll know how special you are.
11/07/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Coqui came to us as an owner surrender on 11/3/15. She was not surrendered with much behavior information so we can only speak on what has been observed while at the shelter. Coqui was very nervous when entering the behavior room. She was tense and fearful when the assessor attempted the look item, but did not escalate or show any signs of aggression. Coqui became quickly uncomfortable during the sensitivity test and turned quickly towards the assessor, and then lunged while growling. Due to this behavior the SAFER was stopped in order to reduce stress levels for Coqui and for safety reasons. Coqui showed no interest in the toy on this portion of the assessment. The behavior department believes that Coqui should go to a rescue partner that can provide positive experiences and positive behavior modification for Coqui. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 5. Dog freezes, quickly turns toward the assessor and lunges while growling. Toy 1. No interest.
11/05/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Coqui has been fearful while in the care center and only briefly greeted other dogs. The behavior department feels that Coqui should have a pre-adoption interaction before being placed in a home with another dog. When off leash with other dogs Coqui greets the helper dog then spends her time exploring her surroundings. 11/5 update: Coqui greets and then explores the yard.
