04/16/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/16/15 09:37 Intake Behavior: Coffee entered the office and hide underneath the chairs. When approached he retreated and crouched as low as he could. He allowed handling but licked is lips when pet, collared, and scanned. The chairs were removed to take Coffee’s picture but placed back when done. He remained under the chair for the remainder of the intake process.
04/21/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Coffee appears to have a Rorschach ink blot on the top of his head. It’s a black splotch, that some may even say looks like a toupee. Or as one staff member speculated, maybe it’s his wisdom spot. I like to “interpret it” as his kiss spot. It’s the perfect patch to land a big smooch upon; and trust me, Coffee loves smooches. He’s pretty much even in how much he loves to give and receive them. Coffee is a young pup, not even a year yet. Though he’s not hyper, he has some playful energy, and he’s very food motivated. He seems to know the command ‘sit’ already, and manages to keep his kennel clean. He is friendly as we pass other dogs and seems to love being in the company of people. When I sat down, he climbed into my lap, and yes, you guessed it, let me kiss the top of his head…right on his “Coffee smudge.” No matter how you perceive his mark, Coffee is the ideal pup looking for a family ready to train a young dog. Do you think that could be you? Ask to meet him at the Brooklyn Care Center today!
04/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Coffee was shy and a bit nervous; she needed coaxing to approach the Assessor. She remained cautious throughout the assessment and needed to be coaxed into position and repeatedly gave whale eye to the Assessor. She had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. Coffee did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. She had no interest in toy or rawhide. Coffee was brought to the care center as a stay; upon intake she was nervous and attempted to hide. She was shy and nervous during her assessment but did not show any aggression. The Behavior Department believes Coffee would do best in an experienced home that understands she may need time to warm up to new people and handling. Children may be considered pending an in-depth interaction. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is low, body a bit stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Coffee is nervous and does not enjoy greetings by a more energetic puppy. When with a calmer dog, he is a polite greeter.
