06/16/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
CoaCoa came to our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. Coacoa walked nicely on leash for his relief walk, no pulling, tail wagging, but growled when someone approached kennel after assessment. He entered SAFER area a little cautious, hesitant to come into the area. CoaCoa allowed his head to be held in assessor’s hand, body cautious, whale eye. He backed away during Sensitivity item, high movement in between passes, fearful body, head flip. During Tag game, CoaCoa chewed leash on first pass, spinning towards the hand on the last pass. He did not want to approach the assessor at the end of game. He gently pulled his paw back on both Squeeze attempts with tense body and whale eye. CoaCoa allowed the Food bowl to be moved away, and required a bit of pressure from assess-a-hand to lift his face out of the dish. He had no interest in Toy or Rawhide. CoaCoa is a polite greeter in playgroup, but does growl at one male staff member. The Behavior Team feels CoaCoa would do best in an Experienced home with No Young Children that is familiar with small, fearful dogs. Any older children should have an indepth interaciton before considering adoption. CoaCoa may do best in a calm, structured setting so he can know what to expect and relax in his new environment. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body is cautious, his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 3. Dog backs away, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, whale eye, head flip. Tag: 3. Dog spins toward the touch, tail is tucked, mouth closed, body fearful, chews leash. Squeeze 1 / 2: 2. Dog gently pulls back, body tense. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-to-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Coacoa is a polite greeter and often solicits attention from dogs and humans.
