07/21/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cindy came into the care center as a stray, so we do not have any information on her past behaviors in a home. Upon arrival to the care center, she was reported to be friendly and walked well on leash. She was also reported to be friendly and easy to handle during her medical exam. During SAFER Cindy was very sociable, and attention seeking. She allowed the assessor to conduct all handling items without issue, and was playful during the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Cindy was a bit resistant when pushed out of the food bowl, but her body was soft and with a bit of pressure applied to her cheek, she lifted her head and allowed the assessor to remove the food. She was not interested in the toy items, and when engaged with the rawhides, Cindy held a firm grip with stiff body language and took the item away, when the assessor attempted to remove the rawhide. Cindy shows potential possessive behaviors over rawhides, and the department feels Cindy would be best suited for an experienced adopter who can safely manage any guarding behaviors, should they occur a home setting. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is stiff. Dog-dog: Off leash CIndy greets appropriately, but is very nervous and stiff and tries to avoid other dog.
