04/28/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Cindy is the kind of gal that lingers on your mind. She is usually quietly curled up in her cage, but always grateful and happy to go for a walk. She has perfect leash manners and seems very housebroken. She arrived very thin, but that could never conceal how beautiful she is. She has the softest facial expressions and I can’t help but see the two large spots on her back as wings. Sometimes she seems to have a sadness about her, but when I call her over she gently wags her tail and soaks up the affection she was too polite to demand. She wiggles into a back scratch and taps her back feet like I’ve satiated an unreachable itch! When I sit down in a doorway she sneaks behind me and pokes her head over my shoulder. She seems to take great comfort in human company and is always very sweet, greeting familiar staff members we pass. She LOVES treats, but takes them nicely and is more than willing to “sit” for them. She came in with a male dog, has seemed fine when we’ve encountered others on walks, and regularly participates in playgroup. She is calm, mild-mannered and as sweet as they come — truly, an angel! Cindy would love to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
06/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
6/15/15 Update Cindy is no longer thriving in the Care Center. In her kennel she appears dull and depressed. When approached, she does not engage in any social behavior. Difficulty in removing her from her kennel has been reported, including refusing to leave her kennel and snapping at hands when leashed. In playgroup her behavior is erratic, at times she is social and playful while other times she is edgy and will over correct then continue to pursue dogs with little or no provocation. It is recommended that Cindy be placed into an adoptive or foster home as quickly as possible. SAFER 6/05/15 Cindy came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Cindy allowed the assessor to conduct all assessment items without displaying any signs of aggression. She displayed some concerning behavior during food item, her body posture is stiff as she gulping her food with bigger bites but did not escalate to growl or bite. Tag-interaction she was distracted but remains calm, toy and rawhide item she settle close to the assessor firm, loose and wiggly. The behavior department feels that Cindy can go to an experience adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog is active and focused on the Assessor and all other stimuli available. Her body is soft, likely panting, likely to display high movement between attempts. Tag: 2. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Licks hand. Food: 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites, body stiff. She does not lift head when hand is applied to cheek.
