**** CAN BE RESERVED ONLINE **** Cindy is a stray who started her stay at NYCACC with positive upbeat comments. She is a wise four year old Pit German Shepherd mix, that allowed all handling and was even said to be very sweet. Cindy is listed to be destroyed tomorrow, and we cannot let her stray status be a lethal disaster. Please share, advocate, and pledge, she only has until noon tomorrow. Cindy needs a foster or adopter to save her life, a compassionate person can be the difference between life and death. -

03/22/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/22/15 14:40 Cindy came in as a stray surrender. Upon intake Cindy was loose and receptive to introduction. Cindy was good for all handling although she was fearful of handling around the neck but not defensive. Counselor was able to scan for micro chip (negative) and collar. Cindy was quick to make friends asking for hugs by standing to the counselors lap and staying close on leash as well as leaning on counselor when seated.
06/22/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Cindy is just stunning. Her beautiful brown and white coat is contrasted by the deep black on her mouth and tail and her ears are adorable, with one always flopping over. Cindy is as sweet as they come. She was very excited to leave her cage for some time outside, and I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but once we left the building, Cindy was as calm as could be. All she wanted to do was take a stroll, explore, and get in some serious cuddle time! There were many moments where she would just stop and look at me, waiting for me to bend down and pet her. Cindy loves back scratches and ear scratches. The smile it puts on her face is just infectious! She is an amazing little girl who would no doubt give her human all of the love in return for giving her their time, patience and love in the forever home she truly deserves. Please come visit Cindy today, she’s waiting for you! Another volunteer writes: Walking into the adoption room looking at all the dogs, I spot Cindy out of the corner of my eye. She looks so small in the large kennel she is in. I first notice her expressive brown eyes that almost all shepherds have, saying “PLEEEZZEEE take me out”. How could I resist? And off we went. Cindy was a tiny bit shy at first but warmed up so quickly and soon I was petting her and rubbing her head and she leaned her head on my shoulder and closed her a eyes for a bit. My heart sank. What a sweet sweet dog. She just wants love. I then read through her card. She was surrendered as a stray, so no background information was given. She does ok in playgroup but prefers to be with humans. Cindy is a low key, low energy girl who walks great on leash–absolutely no pulling. She would do great in a home where she is loved and cherished and wont ask for much in return. Please come to SIACC and meet Cindy. She is sure to grab hold of your heart.
06/24/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Update: Cindy is not thriving in the kennel environment. She has become reactive in her kennel, hard barking and snapping, and has also begun pacing. While still human-social outside the kennel, this behavior indicates that it is Cindy’s best interest to move out of the shelter and into a stable home environment as quickly as possible. 6/9 SAFER: Cindy came to us as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. She was friendly upon intake, leaning on counselor and placing paws on lap to ask for hugs. She walked perfectly on leash for her relief walk, no pulling. Cindy allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands with body soft. She accepted touch for Sensitivity item with ears and tail neutral. Cindy followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, settling at end easily. She gently pulled her paw back during both Squeeze attempts. Cindy had minimal interest in Food, sniffing a few times before turning away. She had no interest in Toy or Rawhide. Cindy has had conflicting behaviors in regards to off leash social time, at times polite and respectful, and at other times overcorrecting and not tolerant. The Behavior Team feels Cindy would do well in an Average home, and may be most comfortable as the only dog, otherwise an in-depth interaction with the resident dog is recommended. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, body soft. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 1. Minimal interest in food, dog may smell or lick, then turn away. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-to-Dog: Cindy continues to be uninterested in engaging with other dogs and will not approach to greet.
