BEHAVIOR:

Christina was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, licked hands and face. She had a soft, wiggly body throughout handling and allowed the handling portion of the assessment to be completed with ease. She engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open during the tag item. Christina was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl; her body was a bit stiff. She had no interest in toys and kept a firm grip on the rawhide with loose, wiggly body.

Christina was brought to the care center as a stray; upon intake she was a bit nervous with a stiff body but soft eyes, she allowed handling once she was given time to warm up to the handler. During her assessment, Christina remained friendly toward the assessor with a loose and wiggly body and did not resist being picked up to be placed back in kennel. The Behavior Department believes she can go to an average home.

Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.

Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins.

Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back.

Food 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after moderate pressure from hand to cheek.

Toy 1. No interest.

Rawhide 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide.

Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs Christina is social and bouncy. She is tolerant of dogs attempting to solicit her with rough play.

GROUP BEHAVIOR:

When off leash with other dogs Chrisitna is social and bouncy. She is tolerant of dogs attempting to solicit her with rough play.

A volunteer writes:
Little Christina is a girly girl in the making . Such a pretty puppy, barely 5 months of age….A perfect tiny body in a cream and honey dress. Sweet eyes marveling at whatever or whoever comes along…Christina is so cute in playgroups. She looks like a busy bea going from flower to flower, trying to make friends with the other youngsters.  She is so gentle in her ways. She walks quite well, does not mouth or “go” for the leash, loves the arms and is of course a wonderful lap-pup. She is delicious, adorable, needy, just like a puppy should be. She plays nicely with toys and shares them with me. Lovely Christina, a babe, does not belong to a kennel but a home, sweet home and the lap of a caring and giving owner. She needs a soft pillow and may be human and/or canine siblings…Well, she will do great in any setting…Christina is a “GOOD” puppy. Come and meet her soon at the Manhattan Care Center
