A volunteer writes: Chocolate was brought to us with Mitch as their family, sadly, was evicted. She was my “pearl” of the day. Chocolate, dressed in a well groomed cream and milk chocolate coat is indeed as sweet as can be. I love her gentle brown eyes and her freckeled pink nose that looks like candy. She has been well fed and well cared for by her owners. Chocolate lays calmly in her kennel. Leashed easily, she walks well and eliminates as soon as we exit the building. She is a bit stressed and cries on and off. As soon as we lock ourselves in a large pen, Chocolate runs toward me and takes refuge into my arms. She is all kisses and wants to come with all four on my lap. I can hear little snorting sounds. Her face is not tense anymore. A smile appears..She likes treats that she takes politely from my hand. She sits on command for them and does not mind to have her picture taken. She is welcoming of other dogs coming to our area, even the little ones. As soon as I sit again, Chocolate gallops toward me and sticks to me like velcro. She is very needy of human attention and comforting. I think she was very much loved. Chocolate is a wonderful, pretty and very sweet dog with gentle manners. She is with us at the Manhattan Care Center, hoping that soon enough, she will be again the princess of the house.
12/22/2013 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Chocolate walked nice on the leash and she may be house trained as she toileted immediately once outside. She was a bit anxious with slight vocalizing whines but remained very friendly with the assessor and easy to handle. Chocolate showed no concern with guarding her food and resources. She was calm and confident when approaching the helper dog and appeared friendly when near. Look: 2 Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful, her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1 Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2 Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1 Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back. Squeeze 2: 1 Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back. Food: 1 Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy: 1 No interest. Rawhide: 1 Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide. Dog-to-dog: 2 Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward. Helper Dog A0978348
