05/25/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: It’s impossible not to notice the bones beneath Chocho Train’s uninterrupted black coat, but she is so beautiful; she wears the softest facial expressions and has the kindest eyes. Initially my impression of her was that she was never the recipient of much attention or care. She’s so thin, looks like she’s been bred, and seemed under-socialized when she first arrived. And then one day we stumbled upon a tennis ball and the sad dog I had been spending time with lit up. To my surprise, this girl is no stranger to fetch. She bounded up and down the pen after the ball, bringing it back to me and even barking at me to hurry up and throw it again! When I first met her she wouldn’t even sniff my treats, but is now appropriately enthusiastic about them and shows me that she already knows “sit” and “paw.” She is very waggy on walks and once insisted on carrying a branch bigger than herself down the block! She jumps up affectionately, gives kisses, and even rolls over for belly rubs. From the moment I start walking dogs in her room she quietly solicits eye contact from her cage and outside she is so attentive and basks in human company. Needless to say my impression of her now is of a resilient, playful, loving, incredibly sweet girl. Whether or not her past was filled with love, she is patiently waiting for someone to give her a future that is — Chocho Train would be so happy to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
05/05/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Chocho Train came to us as a stray on 5/2/15. Upon intake it was reported that Chocho train was nervous and tense, but allowed limited handling. She was interested in interacting with the assessor when entering the behavior room and had soft body language. She allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items, and was easily handled. Chocho Train did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. The behavior department believes that Chocho Train can go to an experienced home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needs coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against her cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, ChoCho Train is very uncomfortable in the yard and is stiff and avoidant. She snaps and barks at another dog when he approachs her in greeting.
05/05/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, ChoCho Train is very uncomfortable in the yard and is stiff and avoidant. She snaps and barks at another dog when he approachs her in greeting. 5/8 update: Due to previous behavior while socializing Chocho Train was muzzled during her interaction. She greets at the gate with low wagging tail but avoids interaction once introduced. She will appropriately correct when the other dog approaches and sniffs. 5/23 update: Chocho Train is much more comfortable being in the yard and near other dogs. She approached the gate with a low wagging tail but when the helper dog approaches to sniff she curls her lip and growls. There was no introduction.
