06/13/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Chiripas came to us as an owner surrender on 6/10/15. It was reported by the previous owner that Chiripas does not allow handling by groomers and has snapped at both the children in the household when they play a little rough and the groomers as well. She can be seen growling in the kennel when trying to remove her. When entering the behavior room Chiripas appears to be sociable and interested in interacting with the assessor. She did not allow the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items, as she tried to bite the assessor on the Sensitivity test. Chiripas bit the assess-a-hand during the food test, and for that reason we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification to address this guarding behavior and can extensively counsel potential adopters before placement into a permanent home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 5. Dog growls and tries to bite. Food: 5. Dog bites assess-a-hand. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral.
