05/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Chips Ahoy came to the care center as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake she was reported to be overly excited, and hard to control, but her body was soft and she did allow handling. During SAFER Chips Ahoy was excitable, but sociable and attention seeking. She allowed the assessor to conduct all handling items but was very active and in constant movement. Chips Ahoy was easy to handle when engaged with the food item, allowing the assessor to easily push her out of the food bowl, and she only showed minimal interest in the toys and rawhides. Chips Ahoy Appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for her energy. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog is active and focused on the Assessor and all other stimuli available. Her body is soft, and panting, and she displays high movement between attempts. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needed coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Dog licks hand Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against her cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog sniffs, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog sniffs, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Chips Ahoy is loose bodied and wiggly when off leash and solicits for play. She engages in a bit of play with a social male. Additional note: Chips Ahoy has been extremely social and wiggly throughout his stay. He thrives on human attention and affection and enjoys close physical proximity.
