10/02/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
10/02/15 11:42 BASIC INFO Chico is a 3 year old neutered dog who has no known injuries or medical problems. He was surrendered to the shelter because he is too active and strong for the previous owner. SOCIALIZATION According to the owner and previous information he lived with 2 and 6 year old children and is relaxed, affectionate, playful, and tolerant but when he plays he is somewhat rough because he will jump on them and bite at leash (has never bitten anyone). He plays somewhat rough with and jumps up on adults. Chico lived with a medium-sized female dog and is relaxed, playful, affectionate, and tolerant with her. He’s relaxed and playful with dogs of all sizes, ages, and sexes. He plays very gently with small/nervous/gentle dogs but will play rough with other dogs who like to. He’s never bit any people or animals. BEHAVIOR Chico has no known behavior issues. He doesn’t mind storms. Chico is friendly with strangers who approach his home/family. He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, wakes him up, or bathes him. He does have a very high level of energy and when he sees unfamiliar people or animals he will have soft, wiggly body and attempt to run over to them, jump on them, and sniff them. Because of this he will pull very hard on leash and is at times difficult to control. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Chico’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, excitable, and very high energy. He follows his family, likes rope toys, and plays catch, chase, and tug. He lived inside and slept on a dog bed. He ate dry Purina One lamb dog food because he has a food allergy, possibly to chicken. He’s housetrained, doesn’t have accidents, and prefers to potty in dirt and around trees. He’s well-behaved while home alone and is crate-trained, but doesn’t need to be crated anymore. INTAKE During intake he would pull on his leash and when prevented from moving would bite at it to approach admission counselor. Throughout the intake showed no aggressive behaviors and when given treat would catch in air. When given sit and stay commands would respond to them.

A volunteer writes: Absolutely stunning! I looked forward to my date with Chico as I had met his housemate Leah (A1049350) and adore her. Chico is very different all in a good way and when I read his former owner’s information on him I admit to being very impressed!! Chico is very intuitive…he plays gently with the 2 and 6 year old children, never jumping on them, although he will jump on adults to play as he did with me. He’s also terrific with and respectful of dogs of all sizes, and will play rough with those that like to, and is gentle with smaller dogs or nervous ones. Wow! We’re told he’s housetrained (check) and never has accidents, is friendly and outgoing to all people, well behaved when home alone, is high energy, doesn’t guard his ‘stuff’, is crate trained although doesn’t need it, and loves catch, chase and tug. Chico found a ball in the pen the moment we entered and it was his ‘prize’ that he was happy to share with me. He snuggled with me with the ball in his mouth, and then settled down to give it a good chomp. When I stopped petting him he nudged me with his nose to “carry on”! So sweet. In play group Chico greeted others excitedly at the gate, and greets all appropriately. We’re told he’s allergic to chicken and chicken products. Chico is looking for an active family as he loves to hike, and loves to play. He might enjoy a doggie sibling as well. This smart, intuitive, active, handsome proven family dog is hoping his new person or family will be walking in the door any moment. Will you be the lucky one?
10/03/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Chico pulls hard on the leash. He was overexcited during handling, jumping up, grabbing at the leash, and was hard to position. Chico became over aroused during the tag interaction, grabbing the leash very concern manner, and did not calm down easily. The behavior team decided to place him back in his kennel he was difficult to handle. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the behavior room we believe that Chico is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER at this time. Chico was surrender to us. According to the owner and previous information he lived with 2 and 6 year old children and is relaxed, affectionate, playful, and tolerant but when he plays he is somewhat rough because he will jump on them and bite at leash (has never bitten anyone). He follows his family, likes rope toys, and plays catch, chase, and tug”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
