05/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog: A1034961 Chi Chi’s came in as a owner surrender due to a behavior change. The owner stated Chi Chi has a low activity level, and will not allow any handling. It was also mentioned that Chi Chi is successfully housebroken and rarely has accidents. At intake it was noted that Chi Chi was not sociable and would not allow handling by the Counselor or the previous owner. During SAFER Chi Chi was not receptive to introductions from the assessor, and she snapped at the assessor when attempting to collar her. Due to this behavior and to avoid further stress for her no handling items were attempted at this time. Chi Chi was not interested in any of the resource items, and did not approach the helper dog during the dog-dog interaction. Due to the behavior displayed during the assessment, the department recommends placement with a New Hope partner so the behaviors seen can be more fully explored before adoption into a permanent home. Food: Inconclusive, dog is not eating. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog, and attempts to exits.

A shelter staff member writes:
Chi Chi was surrendered to us because her owner has noticed a change in her behavior in the past two years. Though we were not given any specific information regarding what her behavior was like previously, she no longer allows handling and will try to nip at any fingers that touch her. We would like to see her get out of the shelter and to a trainer in order to help her return to the dog she used to be. She also needs to get a full workup to ensure that she is not biting out of pain when people touch her. Help this little girl find a home!
