07/23/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: CHEESE! Was she named that because she’s a little chunky and looks like she might love to stock up in the dairy aisle? Or is it because it’s impossible not to smile when you’re with her? I can only speculate about how she got her name, but I can tell you some of the things that make Cheese so awesome! She is very quiet and unassuming in her cage, but the best things usually come in those kind of packages. She’s super easy to handle – a dream on leash and very attentive. She seems housebroken and sits for treats (which she takes very gently). When it’s hot outside and she’s panting she looks like she’s constantly laughing jokes that only she can hear – too cute!! She isn’t particularly demanding of affection and is sometimes almost bashful, but she holds the softest eye contact when I pet her, will hop on the bench to sit at my side, and even gives soft kisses. She has THE most adorable tail/butt wag and the sight of any passing dog or familiar staff member gets it going! She also has the most adorable head tilt, which was recently triggered by a small fluffy dog in the pen adjacent to us that sounded like a squeaky toy. When she noticed the little guy she remained composed, but seemed just delighted by the prospect of his company! That which we call Cheese, by any other word would be just as sweet, gentle and charming! Please come meet her, discover more things that makes her so special, take her home, change her name if you want, and love her forever!!
07/21/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cheese came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake Cheese was nervous but curious; she also ate treats from the counselor and allowed all handling. During SAFER Cheese came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Cheese was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Cheese was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Cheese appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, but bit distracted. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed and lick hand. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog licks, then turns away. Dog-to-dog: When off leash Cheese greets politely. A bit playful offering playbows and gentle/dainty type play. Likes handler interaction.
